Marcos Cardoso
1960, Maricá - Rio de Janeiro Fisherman until the age of 23, graduated from the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ, 1992, attended the Engraving Workshop of Ingá, from 1988 to 1990, and the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage, in 1991. He was a student and friend of Lygia Pape, who wrote the following account of the artist: "Marcos Cardoso metamorphosed by the myth of carnival and its machines: he recycled dust and cloth in palaces and castles, endless make-believe, today pure noble language, immersed in the sensitive, in the dream of the alchemist who engenders deranged objects arfantes". Since 1986 he has participated in group exhibitions and art salons in Brazil and abroad, with emphasis on the First Art Exposition - Brazil, Holland World Trade Center, Amsterdam, 1987; XIV Salon of Contemporary Art, Ribeirão Preto, 1989; IX Printmaking Exhibition of the City of Curitiba; Casa de Las Americas, Havana, 1990; I Biennial International Printmaking of Spain, Santiago de Compostela, 2nd Prize, and 10 th Pará Arte, Belém, Brazil, Pro-Labour Prize, 1991; 49th Paranaense Salon, Curitiba, 1992; "Indomitable Images", School of Visual Arts, Rio de Janeiro and "Ludic, Logical, Lyrical, Lucid", Art Gallery of the Universidade Federal Fluminense - UFF, Niterói, 1994. He also took part in the exhibition "48 Contemporaries", at the UFF Art Gallery, in 1996. From 1991, he had individual exhibitions at Bar'atos, Fragoso - RJ, Galeria do Instituto Brasil Estados Unidos, Rio de Janeiro, 1992; Galeria Anna Maria Niemeyer, also in Rio de Janeiro and Centro Cultural Paschoal Carlos Magno, Niterói, 1995. His work is represented in the collections of the University of Malaga and the Museum of Engraving, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, as well as in the João Satamini collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói.
