Vicente De Mello
The poetics of the photographer Vicente de Mello is inscribed between the themes of light, fragmentation, the body and time.
He was nominated for the Pipa Award in 2017, in 2015 he won the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Contemporâneo Award and was awarded the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte (APCA) Award for best photography exhibition in 2007, for the show at Pinacoteca-SP entitledMoiré.Galáctica.Bestiário. In 2012 he is selected and performs artistic residency in Brussels (Belgium) in Espace Photographie Contretype.
Participates in important exhibitions such as the 2aBienal do Fim do Mundo Ushuaia, Argentina, and the VI Bienal de Havana, Cuba. Publishes in 2006 Áspera Imagem(Editora Aeroplano), a book about his career, and in 2010 Maria(Editora Cosac Naify), with photographic essays on the sculptor Maria Martins.
At the Eduardo Fernandes Gallery he has solo shows in 2010 and 2008 and participated in group exhibitions in 2006, 2009 and 2015.
He has held exhibitions, and his works are part of the collections in the following institutions: Pinacoteca (SP); Gilberto Chateaubriand/MAM-RJ Collection; Museu de Arte de São Paulo - Pirelli Collection; Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris; Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris; Museu de Arte Moderna Aluísio Magalhães, Recife; Museu de Arte Moderna de Brasília; Museu de Arte Moderna-RJ; Museu de Arte Moderna-SP and Joaquim Paiva Collection (RJ).
He has participated in exhibitions at the Museo del Barrio in New York, Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires-(MALBA), CCBB (RJ and BSB), Itáu Cultural (SP), Galeria de Arte da FIESP (SP), Museu de Arte Contemporânea-Niterói, Oi Futuro (RJ), Centre for the Arts Hélio Oiticica (RJ), Museum of the Republic (RJ), Calouste Gulbenkian Center for the Arts (RJ), Sérgio Porto Cultural Space (RJ), Caixa Cultural (RJ), Latin America Memorial (SP), Usiminas Space-BH, SESC-Paulista and Imperial Museum of Petrópolis.
He graduated in Social Communication, Publicity and Advertising (Estácio de Sá College, RJ), with a specialization in History of Art and Architecture (PUC-RJ).
