The INSOMNIA series emerged during the 2020 pandemic. Photographed throughout the nights that became longer and longer in home confinement. The street lighting penetrates through the window and paints the white surfaces of the flat interior with colour.
As the eye becomes accustomed to darkness, it is possible to register variations in tone and colour temperature that previously went unnoticed. I now see three different types of light bulbs on the poles outside my window.
In a contrary movement to the day, when we look outside; at night, the fragments of the outside world are registered inside the domestic space. I see them as diluted landscapes. The light composes poetic abstractions lulled by a lethargic state that accompanies me in the darkest hours.
The eternal wakefulness of those who don't sleep dulls the shadows and challenges consciousness in a long silence. It is difficult to tell whether the eyes are open or closed. I inhabit here a place between sleep and dream.
(Inspired by the novels Sleep by Haruki Murakami and The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster)
