ONLINE COURSE | portfolio preparation for visual artists - second edition

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course will address the most basic premises of portfolio preparation and analysis, such as the correct formatting of the credits, quality of the images of the works and how to set up video works, performance record, exhibition view, diptychs, triptychs and others. The formatting of a good Mini-bio and CV will also be contemplated, since we believe this is part of a good portfolio, besides several examples of portfolios based on different artists and media.

It is important to emphasize that the portfolio is a tool of utmost importance for an artist, it is his business card for several different objectives, and it can be adjusted and changed, according to this objective. Different works entered in different calls for proposals require adjustments in the portfolio, in order to maximize the power of the works presented to the jury of a call for proposals, or a gallery. How to make the printed version in the best way possible will also be addressed.

ONLINE COURSE | brazilian female photographers: the production of women across the country

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course aims to present a journey of women's space in Brazilian photography. Going through the five regions of the country, it will be explored the different possibilities of looking at the production of women photographers in Brazil from the twentieth century to the contemporary. Besides presenting female photographers, the course also seeks to question the reasons that led them to have less visibility in the hegemonic narratives of the history of photography.

The activity aims to encourage the expansion of references in photography, to analyse photographic production in historical and contemporary contexts, to offer a brief overview of women's space in Brazilian photography, to discuss the role of these images and to propagate the place and discourses of women photographers on the national scene.

ONLINE COURSE | three faces of nihilism: civilisation in the mirror

ABOUT THE COURSE

Starting from the works and thoughts of Dostoevsky, Nietzsche and Camus, the course intends to present in an introductory way how each of these authors thought and analysed the question of nihilism, considering it not only a philosophical problem, but above all an ethical-metaphysical problem, in the view of the Russian writer, a historical-cultural and moral problem, in Nietzsche and a problem of existence in both ethics and history in the writer and philosopher Albert Camus.

Thus, the course does not intend to address the history of nihilism as a philosophical problem, but how each of these authors approached the question of nihilism, developing an analysis of the nihilistic consequences of destruction, death and the negation of life, and their possible ways out.

With Dostoevsky, we will see nihilism linked to his religious worldview as a consequence of the affirmation of the existence of evil and how this, through possible demonic influence and the tyrannical desire for freedom through the selfishness of human beings, ends up producing the realm of violence.

In Nietzsche, considered the prophet of nihilism, there is a diagnosis that Greek thought with Socrates and Plato, and later Christianity, produces in history the development of nihilism, as the creator of ideals that deny the vital forces of life and existence, and how this development ends up being a cultural-historical process of a dominant moral perspective that culminates in its own self-destruction.

Finally, with Camus, we have nihilism as a possible consequence of the tearing of the human in the face of the lack of the absolute and of unity in existence, and his desperate search in the face of the feeling of the Absurd to try to recover these references.

At the end of the course, we will hold a collective debate based on one or two cinematographic works in which nihilism appears as one of the themes, at the choice of the group, to artistically enrich the course and the debate.

ONLINE COURSE | around death: dying in art and the west

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course aims at presenting a kind of transhistorical cartography of death (Thanatos) and its literary and imagetic representations in the West. The approach favoured here is largely inspired by the conceptual design adopted by the Mnemosyne Atlas proposed by Aby Warburg (1866-1929). We privilege associations that promote approximations between works of distinct languages and periods that challenge linear and diachronic arrangements in favor of a closer approach based on an interpretative reading that crosses the heteroclite map of analyzed works, tying them together in such a way as to circumscribe them from the axis and tone that the relations proposed by the resulting analytical landscape encompass. Theory and History of Art, Philosophy, History Theory and Lacanian Theory make up the interdisciplinary arsenal that forms the theoretical backdrop to this course, which will unfold in two further modules, in which other representational aspects of death will be analysed.

Through objects that operate on the body and for the body, the course aims to enable a space for crossing and sharing, launching proposals for actions and references. It aims at an immersion in artistic practice, using clothing as potential.

The meetings will alternate, sometimes exhibiting artists who articulate with wearable objects, sometimes promoting provocations of experimentation.

The artists selected to be explained in the course, Jana Sterbak and Senga Nengudi, dialogued with some axes of the classes: subject-object relations, incorporation actions and corporeal perceptions.

ONLINE COURSE | cyborg art: an investigation between digital and analogue frontiers

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course consists of examples and live demonstrations of the possibilities and potentialities brought by the junction between digital and analog media together with questionings and conversations. The instructor seeks to dialogue about translation and inscription processes (in bite, matter or both simultaneously) in the creation of drawing, photography, collages and others that go beyond the digital or analogue medium only.

The first meetings seek to question how we see drawing, painting, photography, collage and eventually the very cataloguing and separation of these media, while the last ones use the knowledge of the previous classes to think about the construction of new discourses and visual narratives from the tension, noise and erasing of boundaries between digital and analog.

ONLINE COURSE | everyday watercolour: a diary of drawings

ABOUT THE COURSE

Eight online meetings punctuate the proposal of this course: to produce a diary of drawings over 56 days.

Fluidity, luminosity, transparency, quick drying and portability are some of the characteristics that make watercolour one of the most used materials by designers and artists to elaborate travel books, drawing diaries and works of imagination. This course proposes a dive in the watercolour waters, in order to know, practice and deepen the experience in this technique.

The activities include study and practice, in meetings divided into two moments: first, presentation of works and processes of artists, which will serve as triggers for the second part - practical activities and sharing of work, exchange of ideas, technical suggestions and reflection on the results.

In addition to the work during the meetings, we also propose a challenge: to make one drawing a day with watercolour, throughout the eight weeks of the course.
