Common good ERNESTO NETO exhibition

In its debut, Vik Muniz's project, the gallery Lugar Comum receives works by the Rio de Janeiro artist Ernesto Neto made from spices, in a direct dialogue with the goods on sale at the fair.

About the event, the artist writes: 

"It is with great affection that we received this invitation from our dear friend, the eternal warrior artist Vik Muniz, with this brilliant proposal to open a space within the São Joaquim fair: LugarComum.

We feel the energy, receive the breath, and the dance; this dance that we want to catalyse, gather, emanate, in the form of sculpture, following the most rooted traditions of my own work: gravity as a driving force, geratrix, backbone, making the connection earth and sky. Around this emanating centre of life, [is] the sculpture-force all made of crochet, full of spices in the belly, and little stones in the fingers.

On the walls, emanating the force, rise beans, lentils, broad beans. On the floor, two bricks and a small pot for smoking. Little boats and leaves swirl around them. Four figs embrace the environment.

Everything is prayer, everything is song, everything is dance. Emanating, calling, the force of the common good, what is common to us all: our hearts, our fingers, our song, our dance; our wind, our sun, our earth, our rivers, our dreams, our love, our energy, our life.

Common good [is] inspired grateful to the invitation of Lugarcomum.

Art is a way of being in the world, it happens all the time, everywhere, invisible and inexplicable, an unnamed dream.

Art spreads, pulsates, orients, blows, sings and dances life.

Art is happening now, sculpture happens every moment, in balance in time.

Art burns, art burns, art blows, art heals.

Hei yomamae, hei yomamaki, utatuta, ianakate, nakuiabakawa, naka yuba ete, chakuanahu, chakuanaha, chakuete, yubakata.

Joy well in common, love well in common, friendship well in common, equality well in common, health well in common, longing well in common, art life well in common.
