Laura Miranda - The ground, a lake, the trees and the stars

Curated by Agnaldo Farias, the artist from Paraná and resident in Curitiba presents a set of her production that is shaped by performative practices and by works with experimentation in languages and media. The exhibition brings works produced between 2014 and 2021 punctuated by objects from the beginning of her career in the mid-1990s, adding up to 71 works. This configuration creates a relational space between an artistic thought originating from the production, presented with its reverberating power over the years, and its unfolding in more recent languages.

The show presents drawings and objects and includes collaborative projects such as performances and video installations with the participation of artists Denise Bandeira in the video Spirare and Mônica Infante in the performances Estrela Canina and Líquens. The works result from processes of exploration at the relational border between subject and world, body and place, art and society. "The works are constructed through experiments with materials and surfaces, their fragments and fractures, movements and velocities of gesture and body present in the flow of scenic and plastic production," says Farias.

The possibility of integrating light and matter, sky and earth, with the body as the connecting axis between these two extremes, is presented in the series chosen for this exhibition, built in the Passaúna Environmental Protection Area (APA), in the metropolitan region of Curitiba. This context of production inspired the title of the exhibition, The ground, a lake, the trees and the stars, chosen by the curator.

"From the breath to the world, Laura Miranda's work makes use of an extensive list of materials and processes, such as blown glass, perforated lead sheets, the ground in which she buried rice paper, dyed fabrics, garments made of latex, the performance held at the source of a river, protected by trees and ferns, the choreography based on the movements of dogs and related to the enigmatic geometry of the constellations, other works. A multiple and mysterious work, like certain feelings that we feel without being able to define them", adds the curator.

 

Laura Miranda has a degree in Visual Arts and a post-graduate degree in the History of 20th Century Art from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Paraná in Curitiba. She is also trained in Somatic Experiencing, psychobiological approach to trauma and has been practicing Ki Aikido and Somatic Education for about twenty years. The connection of these fields of knowledge has been the basis of her investigations in the construction of a thought about the body, translated into different languages, plastic and performative.
