Largest immersive show about Monet starts world tour in Rio de Janeiro

The French painter loved them all and maintained a close relationship with the maritime landscape: he grew up by the sea and admired the blue immensity. In Le Havre, the city he moved to at the age of five, he saw ships from all over the world docked for supplies and on their way. This relationship has led him to create some stunning artworks. A large part of them arrives in Rio de Janeiro, between March 19 and June 12, in an original and unprecedented show of projections that translates the legacy of the Impressionist icon, in a partnership with the Museu de Arte do Rio.

Monet À Beira D'Água is a mixture of light, art, colour, music and shapes, projected onto the floor and walls, giving the visitor the sensation of being inside the painter's artworks.

The 15-meter high tent will be installed at the Olympic Boulevard, in the port area of Rio, in the surroundings of the MAR, starting February. In the structure of over two thousand square meters, it will be possible to experience 285 licensed artworks of the painter and projected on panels seven meters high. This is considered the largest Monet's multimedia exhibition in the world in terms of duration.

The paintings will be presented in sequences of 2D and 3D digital animations, forming eight audiovisual narratives, each emphasizing an aspect of the Impressionist master's work, in a new and contemporary guise, whose main objective is an invitation to travel, to explore territories, to walk and to stroll. "The show presents an imaginary journey of Monet following a route by the water's edge in search of landscapes that change with the atmosphere, painted by him on the banks of rivers, seas and lakes. All this supported by a curatorship that offers the public the proposal to know his work from the water", explains the executive director of the exhibition, Leo Rea Lé, one of the members of the Brazilian startup MIRA (Museum of Immersive Roaming Arts), developer of the show.

"Water is the central theme of the exhibition," as curator Naum Simão explains. "From this theme we guided the choice of artworks and their organization into eight thematic subgroups, which we call narratives: A Train Journey; Fields and Mills; The Sea and the Light; Lake Walk; Architecture of Time; Snowy Horizon; Landscapes "en vert" and Paint Flowers. It took 28 months of production, involving the dedication of over 60 professionals", he explains. Among the main artworks by Monet present in the exhibition are the series of Saint Lazare Station (1877), Rouen Cathedral (1893), the Lake of the Nymphs (1895-1926), the Palace of Westminster (1904) and the Grand Canal in Venice (1908). STANDARD TECHNOLOGY In this immersive museum, illustration and animation blend with projectors, computer graphics, VR programming, sound design and various software in order to conceive an innovative product. The exhibition uses cutting-edge technology to create a 360-degree multi-sensory experience. "We will take people on a journey through the banks of the River Seine, the Garden of Giverny and the Normandy Coast. Not forgetting their journeys to London, Venice , Amsterdam and Norway.

For this, we will use 12 thousand lumens projectors, three-dimensional sound system in high definition, original soundtrack, animations, visual, sound and special effects", explains the artistic director, Renato Sass. Monet à Beira D'Água in Rio de Janeiro is presented by B3 and directed by Rua 34 Produções and the Ministry of Tourism through the Special Secretariat of Culture, by means of the Incentive to Culture Law. It also counts on the support of Nova Transportadora do Sudeste - NTS, Bayer, Renner, BNP Paribas, Repom, the French Embassy in Brazil and the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) in a partnership with the Rio de Janeiro Art Museum.
