"Provisional Gallery" opens with retrospective of artist Anderson Thives

"Provisional Gallery" opens its doors in Ipanema on January 13

Conceived by the architect Aline Araújo in partnership with the artist Anderson Thives, Galeria Provisória opens, temporarily - as its name indicates - in the heart of Ipanema. Its ephemerality establishes an analogy with the current pandemic times. This first occupation will make a retrospective of Thives' career: around 40 pieces addressing shows held since the beginning of his career, as well as recent projects, covering previews of new exhibitions and installations. All this exhibited in the month of permanence, with the proposal of also bringing together other artists who dialogue with the proposal of the space.

 

About Anderson Thives

Anderson Thives is one of the only Brazilian artists to work exclusively with collage, in a technique that consists of joining thousands of squares of paper (around five thousand cutouts per square meter) in the most varied colours, tones and sizes, taken from magazines and catalogues to form the images.
With a great influence of Pop Art, as well as artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Tom Welsseman and Richard Hamilton, with his style and taste for the culture of images, specific, direct and easy to assimilate, the artist portrays through his collages all the sensitivity, expression and impact formed by an unconventional technique.
Always colourful, joyful and vibrant, his works can be seen in several museums and galleries around the world, as Thives is also represented by Abraham Art, located in the Netherlands, one of the largest gallery distributors. In Paris, after working with two renowned galleries in the city of light and doing the biggest art fair at the Bastille, in 2015 the artist set up a new gallery that bears his name, in Rueil-Malmaison, located next to the Paris Jockey Club. In the United States, he has had exhibitions in San Francisco and New York, with great success, and since 2016 he has been part of the collective GAB Gallery in Wynwood District. Among her clients, well-known names such as businessman Eike Batista, soap opera writers Cristianne Fridman and Rui Vilhena, actresses Cláudia Raia, Juliana Paes, Lilia Cabral, Regina Duarte, Deborah Secco, Claudia Abreu, Letícia Spiller, Carol Castro, Emanuelle Araújo, Viviane Pasmanter, Leandra Leal, Paloma Bernardi, socialite Narcisa Tamborindeguy, musician Tico Santa Cruz, Brazilian singers Ivete Sangalo, Anitta, Vanessa Da Mata, Preta Gil and Ana Carolina, Syrian-Lebanese singer Mika, pop star Madonna, and, more recently, Mark Zuckemberg, creator of Facebook, just to name a few.
