Ana Kesselring graduated in Fine Arts from FAAP, São Paulo, Brazil in 2005. Since then she has developed a body of work focused on the body as an inherent subject. Be it human - mostly female, animal or vegetal, the artist seeks new ways to represent or evoke the body, often shuffling internal (anatomical) visions with external visions of the body. This body is not necessarily figurative, sometimes the work evokes primitive forms, or the body of the Earth, either through Landscape or Still Life. Ana Kesselring uses various techniques, from engraving, painting, drawing or photography. She almost always creates her works manually. However often the way these techniques are used is subverted or changed, as is almost always the case in contemporary art. In 2007 Ana was awarded the residency scholarship "Cité Internationale des Arts" in Paris by FAAP, São Paulo. In 2001 she obtained her Masters at the University Pois VIII. She has had exhibitions in Brazil at Centro Universitário Maria Antonia (SP), Centro Cultural São Paulo (SP), Museu Paço Imperial (RJ) and Museu da República (RJ) , and in France at the Sycomoreart gallery (Paris) and at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), among others. Ana currently lives in Lisbon and works from her atelier in Caselas. She has recently completed a five year project in ceramics at the Ar.Co. Contemporary Art School. Her works have been exhibited there several times. Ana travels frequently to São Paulo, where she works as guest artist in several studios.
