Carlos Nunes

São Paulo, 1969 | Lives and works in São Paulo

Studied Fine Arts at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo, Carlos Nunes worked as a designer for several years and in 2008 began his career as a visual artist. According to Jacopo Crivelli Visconti, the most personal aspect of Carlos Nunes' modus operandi is that although his works always have a remarkable visual appeal, what really characterizes them is not the formal aspect, but the way in which forms are constructed, or rather imagined, planned and finally accepted, without retouching, just the way they are.

Of his individual exhibitions the following stand out: Phototaxia (Raquel Arnaud Gallery, 2017), object days in cloudy light (Soares dos Reis Museum in Porto, Portugal, 2016), y si las cosas nos mienten? (Ponce+Robles Gallery, Madrid, 2016), Modus operandi (Raquel Arnaud Gallery, 2013) and Triumph of colours, love and music over the evil blues (British Culture Centre, 2010).

Of his collective exhibitions, the following stand out: Action and Reaction (Casa do Brasil in Madrid, 2018), code (Osnova Moscow Gallery, 2017), Si no todas as armas, por lo menos los cañones (Matadero, Madrid, 2014), Afinidades. Raquel Arnaud 40 years (Instituto Tomie Ohtake, 2014), The revolution has to be done little by little (Raquel Arnaud Gallery, 2012) and Boîte Invaliden (Invaliden Gallery, Berlin, Germany, 2011). He did a residency at Matadero, Madrid, in 2014 and at Espaço T, Porto, Portugal in 2016.

His works are part of collections such as Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo; MAC USP; Museu de Arte do Rio - MAR, RJ; and the Helga de Alvear collection, Madrid, Spain.
