Maria Amelia Vieira
Maria Amelia Vieira was born in Alagoas and has art as her main driving force. She studied and became a professional in Rio de Janeiro, at the Atelier of varied techniques and painting in the workshop of Maria Teresa Vieira. She took an intensive course at the Escolinha de Arte do Brasil with Augusto Rodrigues and Noêmia Varela. She is graduated in Social Communication - Advertising, at the Faculdade Hélio Alonso (RJ), with specialization in Strategic Design. She is a visual artist, designer, art educator, art collector, design consultant and innovator of handcrafted products, with emphasis on traditional practices (embroidery, fibers, ceramics, etc.). It is through the creation of unique pieces of ceramics, paintings, sculptures and many other artistic techniques that she expresses herself. Since 1980, she has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. She also discovered and helped to divulge the work of dozens of artists from her state, such as Master Fernando Rodrigues, Dona Irinéia, Resêndio, Zezinho, Antônio de Dedé, Jasson, Vavan and so many others who today have works spread all over Brazil and the world. In cultural and artistic projects having as proposer the Museum Karandash Collection, Maria Amelia Vieira assumes almost always the coordination, participating also as instructor in the actions of the Museum Boat in the São Francisco River. Besides, she is a cultural producer, with experience in curating exhibitions and producing video-documentaries.
