Washington Silvera. Curitiba/PR, 1969. Washington Silvera exhibits since 1994. He participated in several collective exhibitions, among them: 8th Bienal Nacional de Santos, 2002, São Paulo; "Metaforismos Visuais", 2002, Ybakatu Espaço de Arte, Curitiba,PR; Bienal de Valencia 2007 "Encuentro entre dos mares" Valencia, ES; "Pequeños Rituales Domésticos", 2007, Cubo Gallery,Barcelona, ES; "The magic eyes of the Americas", 2009, Afro Brazil Museum, São Paulo and "The State of the Art", 2010, Oscar Niemeyer Museum, Curitiba, PR; besides seven participations in the Salon Paranaense in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Parana. He participated in the editions of ARCO Madrid in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and SP Arte from 2012 to 2016. His solo exhibitions include: "Consciência Expandida", at the Memorial de Curitiba, in 2007; "Galeria Abierta", in 2008, Plaza Joan Miró, Barcelona,ES; "Viu?", 2011, Ybakatu Espaço de Arte, Curitiba-PR. Washington Silvera's work reminds us of a passage from Julio Cortázar, in Jogo da Amarelinha: "What things seem strange to me. The most trivial. Above all inanimate objects. What seems strange to me about them? Something I don't know. But that's exactly it! What on earth did I get this notion of "something" from? I feel that it is there, that it exists. It produces in me an effect, as if it wanted to speak. This is how Washington Silvera's objects are, they produce an effect, as if they wanted to speak. They tell stories through their representation. They are fables of themselves.
