Mario Cohen Gallery
Opened by Mario Cohen in Rio in 2002, the gallery established itself as the first Fine Art Photography Gallery in Latin America, aware of the importance of a space for the documentation and appreciation of photography, especially Brazilian photography, to reveal new talents and to serve as a channel to mediate the relationship between the artist and the market. In August 2015 it settled in São Paulo. Mario Cohen, responsible for the exhibitions and its collection, was part of the creation and development of the Pirelli / Masp photography collection for 19 years, today among the most respected in the country. During this long period he had the opportunity to get to know the richness and importance of Brazilian photography. In his professional life, he has successfully dedicated himself to the appreciation of great brands through art and culture, being responsible - among other projects - for the creation of the Portuguese Language Museum, the first museum in the world dedicated to the celebration of a language, and the Ibirapuera Auditorium with its music school that serves 150 students, which in numerous surveys was indicated as the preferred place for Paulistas to hear music. Located in the Jardim Paulistano neighbourhood, the 130m² space is on the second floor of a charming little building. Besides the exhibitions mounted throughout the year, it has important collections, such as the photographers Sebastião Salgado, Pierre Verger, Otto Stupakoff, Marcel Gautherot, Walter Firmo, Cássio Vasconcellos, Norman Parkinson, Roberio Braga, Cristiano Mascaro, among other renowned names of photography.
