Portas Vilaseca Gallery

Portas Vilaseca Gallery was founded by Jaime Portas Vilaseca in 2012 in Rio de Janeiro. Until 2018 it operated in the Leblon neighborhood to then occupy a three-story building in the Botafogo neighborhood, where it has been promoting a dynamic agenda of exhibitions and special artistic projects, among other actions. Currently, the gallery represents 22 artists who make up an important cross-section of recent Brazilian contemporary art production in its different contexts. The gallery is characterized by two work fronts: (1) investment in young artists; and (2) experimentation. Born in different generations and originating from various regions of Brazil, the artists represented here carry out research in various languages - painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video, installation, and performance. More than creators, our artists are visual arts researchers extremely concerned with the status of the image in contemporaneity, as well as with the presentation of their productions. When observing the exhibitions held, both in the gallery and in art fairs, it is clear that the exhibition act is faced as an experimental act in which no proposition will be equal to another; and where visitors will have a unique physical and visual experience. Portas Vilaseca Gallery has as values the dissemination and the institutionalization in Brazil and abroad of its cast of artists. It is determinant that the works are, above all, an exercise of individual freedom - either for the public that fruition them, or for the artists that create them, or for the gallery that shelters and promotes them. Portas Vilaseca Gallery is a member of the Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art - ABACT.
