ETEL and Galeria Almeida & Dale present the exhibition "Elective Affinities" by Claudia Moreira Salles at Casa Zalszupin

The exhibition is marked by a dialogue between works of art and design pieces that have marked the partnership between ETEL and Claudia over the last 30 years, as well as two new creations by the designer.

The exhibition "Elective Affinities", by Claudia Moreira Salles, opens from April 4 to May 21 at Casa Zalszupin in São Paulo, a cultural space administered by ETEL and the gallery Almeida & Dale. Around twenty pieces that marked the long partnership between ETEL and Claudia will be presented, dating from the beginning of the 1990s until today, and that dialogue with works of art mediated by the gallery Almeida & Dale and curated by Claudia herself, coming from varied artistic movements, but that relate to her work in the mixture of technical rigor, elegance and delicacy, characteristics that are present in the DNA of the designer's creations.

"Elective Affinities," takes its name from a work by German writer Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, a novel that deals with wills and choices, but mainly about "the natures that when they meet, quickly attach and identify themselves". The furniture, objects, and lighting fixtures chosen, manifest the affinities between their different materials, with textures, colours, shapes and temperatures, united in harmony and function.

Among Claudia's pieces are the Tea Trolley, Jangada Stool, Iracema Stool, Free Cube Table, Eccentric and Concentric Lamps, among others.

Claudia will also present two new pieces, the Afinidades Table and the Medeiros Bench. The Affinities Table was created exclusively for the exhibition at Casa Zalszupin. Its design and choice of materials are based on Jorge Zalszupin's Guanabara table, with the intention of establishing a dialogue and showing affinity with the master's piece.

The Medeiros bench is based on a composition of vertical and horizontal planes with its orthogonality broken by the angle of the seat. The bench has an architectural presence and the materials, rustic stone and Riga pine, juxtapose opposing colours and textures. The use of the central foot, the balance of the top as far as possible and the use of wood and concrete are defining elements of both creations.

"Art has always been a source of inspiration for me. The concision and clarity of ideas, the simplicity and stillness brought by forms and compositions, the coherence and magic between form and matter, are experiences I share with certain works and that guide my drawing. The house that Jorge Zalszupin, for whom I have immense admiration, designed and lived in for years, transmits these values and becomes a catalyst for this coexistence of art and design", explains Claudia.

Among the works of art intermediated by the gallery Almeida & Dale will be exhibited names such as Willys de Castro, Lygia Pape, Geraldo de Barros and Waldemar Cordeiro whose geometry has an obvious connection with the furniture and objects, and also works by José Leonilson Bezerra Dias, Alberto da Veiga Guignard and Lasar Segall which, according to Claudia, move her for their strong and delicate beauty.

Moreover, upstairs the house, next to the studio of master Zalszupin, will show the exhibition project as it was developed by Claudia in the studio and a series of panels with sketches of the exhibited pieces, inspirations, samples of materials to show that design is a process, a series of reflections and comings and goings until reaching the final product.
