BELIZARIO Galeria opens the show "The Extension of the Gap", by artist Michelle Rosset where a series of unpublished works created during the pandemic period are exhibited. These works include supports and various techniques such as collages, photographs and sculptures where, "through the manipulation and movement of these materials, I observe the new geometric forms and work on the possibilities and possible arrangements between them," explains the artist. The critical text is by Shannon Botelho and curated by Orlando Lemos.

During the period of social withdrawal to which everyone was submitted, the artist began to observe more attentively the objects in her house and the new forms that appeared in the space when touched by the sun's rays; the shadows projected in the spaces were transmuted into aesthetic contours offering new artistic forms that made new meanings possible. With a restless mind, the artist begins to question distances and space itself - an action which comes to serve as the basis for the title of the exhibition - "The Extension of the Gap" - since, in the eyes of Michelle Rosset, "extension" can refer to the distance between people while "gap" suggests separation.

Isolated in her creative process, the artist seeks to understand factors such as time, place and distances, creating bridges between the place of confinement, the female home and the fragile universe; integrating the female home with the male world through the use of the wooden trena, an object characteristic of the male world of construction. "With a starting point of only one object, I seek to transform through folding and cutting the multiple possibilities of visualization," says the artist. The result of the research generates works with a strong relationship between geometry and colour, where the triangular shape of the reflections of sunlight breaks down white light into a spectrum of colours.

In the words of Shannon Botelho, "colour, as structure and instance of time, became the very cohesion of the poetics formulated by Michelle. But how can one speak of the power of colour and not locate its structural function in geometric forms? For, there is something emerging in the artist's research, which is the constructive notion of colour that formulates hitches and areas of play, where the visual experiences weave their sense not narrative, but purely abstract".

Michelle Rosset makes the public search for new forms of communication where "talking" is not necessarily the main thing. Through graphics, the artist deconstructs communication ciphers to redefine a new format of speech!
