Exhibition "ALPENDRE" | Mano Penalva

"Alpendre" is Mano Penalva's 2nd solo exhibition as a represented artist at Portas Vilaseca Gallery.

The show brings together a set of previously unseen works, including objects and installations, which go back to the artist's research and practice regarding the use of everyday elements in new contexts. Penalva proposes new aesthetic groupings based on his experiences of collecting stories and observing the field that moves between the House and the Street.

The critical text, signed in an essayistic prose tone by curator and writer Tiago de Abreu Pinto, transits through history, architecture and cinema as an intimate dialogue that proposes reflections on the rituals associated with the house, promoting the encounter of the physical with the symbolic and the sacred. Porch is a place of passage that establishes a marked graduation between the interior and exterior space of a residence, functioning as a transitory point of reflection and gaze. According to Abreu Pinto, it can also be understood as a climatological zone, where we pass from private shadow to social clarity, or vice versa. The exhibition proposal invites the viewer to experience the "structure-alpendre" on the architectural and bodily levels.
