The exhibition "The Collector" opens on February 26 at Pina Estação. In it, visitors can check Bruno Faria 's work Introduction to the History of Brazilian Art 1960-1990 (2015), belonging to the Pinacoteca's collection (acquired by the Patrons Program), an installation composed of 168 vinyl records, whose covers were designed by visual artists such as Hélio Oiticica, Regina Vater, Guto Lacaz, Alex Flemming, among others. Based on this idea of a collection gathered by an artist, the exhibition will explore other works from the Pinacoteca's collection by Jac Leirner, Mabe Bethônico, Nelson Leirner, Raphael Escobar and Thiago Honório, all of which are based on this same principle, reflecting on the appropriation and re-signification of objects by contemporary artistic practice.The construction of the work The Collector, by Mabe Bethônico, began in 1996 with the daily practice of cutting out images from newspapers, which are grouped and classified by themes, focusing on buildings, houses or cities in visible transformation: those that were destroyed by wars, accidents, natural disasters, etc., or were corroded, or abandoned, or were still in different stages of construction or reconstruction. A large chapter within the collection is made up of images of flowers, classified by colour. The archive is organised in thematic folders with named divisions and subdivisions. The collection is displayed in showcases and made available for public consultation in a library or archive environment. The content is mapped out in a thematic structure or list that serves as a visual guide to the general archives. Visitors are encouraged to handle folders and contribute clippings to the collection, causing it to be interpreted by different people, depending on the circulation of the work.
