First major Latin American retrospective of one of the greatest living Japanese photographers. Daido Moriyama (b. 1938) began his career in post-war Japan and became the pop icon and most influential of Japanese photography. Inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, William Klein and Jack Kerouac, Moriyama revolutionised the way we looked at the world with his dense, grainy images. Based on extensive research and unprecedented access to the photographer's archive, the exhibition traverses different moments of his vast and productive career: from the interest in the American occupation and experimental theatre of the 1960s to the radical works of the 1970s, from the self-reflexive period in the 1980s and 1990s, through the tireless documentation of cities and the reinvention of his own archive. The exhibition, which will occupy two floors of the IMS Paulista, will feature over 200 works and a hundred publications, as well as contributions from Japanese scholars and specialists.
