The solo exhibition Under the clay of the ground, by Juraci Dórea (1944, Feira de Santana, BA), opens on 30 September at the Brazilian Sculpture and Ecology Museum (MuBE), part of the network of partner institutions of the 34th São Paulo Biennial.

The Bahian artist has an important body of work, mainly concerning ecological issues and the dialogue with popular culture and the countryside people. Curated by Galciani Neves, Juraci presents a body of work ranging from the 1960s (drawings, project documents, records of his first works set in the semi-arid landscape), photographs, annotations and the documentary "Projeto Terra" (1980), banners and other sculptural works produced recently.

The MuBE - Brazilian Sculpture and Ecology Museum is a landmark in the landscape. Created by Paulo Mendes da Rocha, one of the most awarded architects in the world, the building, where the great marquee stands out, or "Stone in the Sky", as the architect refers to it, with its 60 metre span, is considered one of the main constructions of the brutalist architecture worldwide.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and following the protocols developed for the city's Museums, which allowed the reopening of the cultural institutions safely, the visit to the MuBE will only be possible by prior booking and with proof of Covid-19 vaccination.

Admission to the Museum remains free, however, it is necessary to book your ticket in advance through this platform, in addition to respecting all the rules of visitation and protocols for access to the building, garden, current exhibitions, restaurant and other areas of the Museum. It is mandatory the use of masks, temperature control at the entrance, respect for the physical distance of 1.5 meters between visitors, among other rules necessary to maintain your safety, of other visitors and Museum staff. We count on your collaboration!

About the exhibition

MuBE presents the new group exhibition "For a breath of fury and hope". Curated by Galciani Neves (Chief Curator of the museum) and Natalie Unterstell (specialist in public policies and climate change), the exhibition intends to share with the public the impacts of climate change and its social, historical, political and environmental consequences.
The curators propose an exhibition that excels in listening to the diverse cosmovisions that observe and project extreme climate events, chronic water shortages, the advance of the sea over the coasts, the decrease in food productivity, the extinction of species, etc.
The exhibition critically positions itself in the face of this alarming situation, which poses us an immense challenge: to make a rapid transition to a clean economy and create the capacity to adapt to a warmer world and a more unstable climate.
With about 165 participants, "For a breath of rage and hope" has a virtual segment and also a video exhibition. Artists, activists, environmentalists, scientists, researchers and writers presenting works, books, research and records of struggle.

The group show also features a solo exhibition by Juraci Dórea.

By visiting the exhibition you can donate plants that will be planted in areas that have been deforested.

This exhibition counts with resources of the Culture Incentive Law of the Federal Government; Senior Sponsorship J.P.Morgan; Institutional Sponsorship Ageo and Machado Meyer; Institutional Support Prefeitura da Cidade de São Paulo; Partnership Liga das Mulheres pelo Oceano, SOS Mata Atlântica, Instituto Socioambiental and Imazon.
