Documentation and Research exhibits, from 5 May, a collection of images
posters and historical documents that show how the actions that have taken place at EAV
history are in dialogue with fundamental themes of today's world.
The School of Visual Arts
Parque Lage has a series of documents, photos and posters that revisit its
its trajectory, but also those of other focal points of Brazilian culture.
Shedding light on this heritage, the school invites the public to get to know the project
"Hosting Movement" project, in which the Library | Documentation and Research Centre investigates moments in which
that EAV has contributed to the expansion of narratives from other institutions.
Thus, it shows how key themes today, such as memory and equality
have been the focus of events throughout its history. The exhibition at Parque
Lage, which is linked to the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy of Rio
Rio de Janeiro, can be visited from May 5 to June 19, 2022.
The selected documentation
spans different decades, on varied themes. The manifestations around the
reconstruction of the Museum of Modern Art (MAM), after the 1978 fire, are an
an emblematic example of this relationship. On the episode, there are letters from the reconstruction
committee, newspaper clippings, an article by Mario Pedrosa imagining what the new MAM

covers of the "Lampião Newspaper". The periodical published by Francisco Bittencourt
between the years 1978 and 1981, which had its first editions printed at the
school, represents an important front of struggle of the Brazilian homosexual movement

the aim of increasing the visibility and acceptance of bodies that exhibit a
non-hegemonic standard.
"Host Movement" resumes a
project that had two editions before the pandemic, both in 2019. The first was
"Hosting Lélia Gonzalez," recalling the first course on black culture at
EAV, in 1976, taught by the anthropologist and PUC-RJ professor who became a
reference in Brazil. The second was "Hosting Eco-Sensorial", which revisited the
exhibition "Eco-Sensorial - urban extractivism", held in 1992 by the
artists at EAV in dialogue with ECO-92.
Director of EAV, Alberto Saraiva calls attention to the
goal of fostering debate around the archives of the Memória Lage project. "In this sense, discussions are raised about fundamental
fundamental themes for today, always based on the historical documentation of
events that took place at Parque Lage. In the first edition, with 'Hospedando Lélia
Gonzalez', the Library revisited the legacy of the first black woman to lecture institutionally

periods when it hosted the publication of 'Lampião Magazine' in the 1970s, which
which discussed avant-garde themes".
"Hosting Movement" represents the
resumption of the library's broader activities, notes Rúbia Luiza da
Silva, EAV librarian. "After two years without any internal activity in this space, we
in this space, we reopen remembering that this is a place not only focused on
study and silence, it has a vocation as a cultural space, from the rescue
of memory".

About EAV Parque Lage
The School of Visual Arts
was created in 1975 by artist Rubens Gerchman, to replace
the Institute of Fine Arts (IBA). Its emergence took place in the middle of the
during the Cold War in Latin America, during the period of strong censorship and military
censorship and military repression in Brazil. EAV is historically affirmed for its avant-garde character
vanguard, as a landmark of non-conformity to borders and categories, and regularly
regularly poses questions to society through the valorisation of artistic thought.
Some striking examples
of the history of Parque Lage are the use of the palace as the seat of
Alecrim city government in Terra em
Transe, directed by Glauber Rocha in 1967; and the exhibition "How are you doing, Generation 80?
