"Mais valor que valia", at Galeria Lume, proposes a review of assimilated values
Maré de Matos twists concepts and transforms different materials into works of art that challenge the exploitation of natural and human resources
"Reforest the chest". This is the expression (and work) that Maré de Matos uses to share the need she feels before the historical, social, political and environmental scenarios of today. The artist interpels structural inequalities in the language of poetry in the solo exhibition Mais valor que valia starting February 23, at Galeria Lume.
"I talk about a cognitive mess that disengages us from fundamental values, such as the preservation of nature, and I propose connecting with important resources, such as sensitivity and attention. It's not about me, it's about paradigms that affect humanity," declares Maré.
About Maré de Matos
Maré de Matos is a transdisciplinary artist. Born in Governador Valadares (MG), in the Vale do Rio Doce region, she graduated in Visual Arts at the Guignard school (UEMG) and has a master's degree in Literary Theory (UFPE). Currently, she is developing a research project on the Museum of Emotions for her doctorate (USP). She works on the tension between version and truth; single history and polyphonic counter-narratives; power and position. She researches representation and responsibility, the imaginary and delirium of modernity, the invention of race and narrative of the self, subjectivity and counter-colonial pedagogies. Her work is situated, above all, in the neighbourhood between the territories of the image and the word.
About Galeria Lume
Lume Gallery was founded in 2011 with the proposal to foster the development of contemporary creative processes alongside its artists and guest curators. Directed by Paulo Kassab Jr. and Victoria Zuffo, Lume is dedicated to breaking boundaries between different disciplines and languages, through a unique and bold model that reinforces the role of São Paulo as a cultural hub and city in frank creative effervescence.
The gallery represents a select group of established and emerging artists, dedicated to the introduction of art in all its media, aimed at a national and international audience, through a plural exhibition program associated with ideas that inspire and drive the discussion of the spirit of the times.
