Galeria Marília Razuk opens individual exhibition of artist Mariana Serri

In 'The dawn game', the artist exhibits a new set of 40 paintings, in which she reflects on the balance between man and nature

 

The movement of the sun and the cardinal points guide artist Mariana Serri 's research on the origin of her desire to represent shapes and colours, elements that are always present in her poetics. The result of this investigation can be seen in the nearly 40 paintings of the show The dawn gameThe result of this investigation can be seen in the nearly 40 paintings in the solo show that the artist is showing from November 27 at Galeria Marília Razuk, with a critical text by Bia Machado.

The exhibition contrasts paintings of organic forms and botanical titles with a series of small geometric shapes, inspired by streaks and graphic elements of a swimming pool. "The circular solar shape is an element that shows in several paintings, referring to the title and the infinite mystique enclosed in the star," Serri explains.

In the series Chão (Ground ) (2021), Mariana reflects on the idea of presence, from her presence in the studio, when giving life to her paintings, the presence when collecting and observing the plants eternalized in her work, to the presence of the visitor who observes her creations. It is a way of leading the spectator to be present in the experience of colour.

In the set of four vertical paintings, Mariana Serri represents the directions of north, south, east and west, and brings to the public skylines inspired by views of the coast and the studio, the Mariana Trench - the deepest place of the oceans, located in the Pacific Ocean -, and the movement of the sun throughout the months.

The artist proposes a balance between vertical and horizontal formats, and brings in several moments the cross format not only as a figurative element of the work, but also in the exhibition's expography, contrasting geometric works with works of fluid forms.

It is a dichotomy that implicitly shows the harmony and symbiosis between the artistic production of this artist from Minas Gerais, who was raised in São Paulo, and her work as an educator, an activity that has run in parallel since the beginning of her career and which allows an investigation into the origin of her interest based on the interest observed in her students.

 

About Mariana Serri
Born in 1982 in Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais, Mariana Serri currently lives and works in São Paulo.

Visual artist graduated from FAAP - Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, in 2005. In 2013 she presented the solo exhibition Áporo at Galeria Marília Razuk, in homage to the poem of the same name by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, and also to this word. In 2012 he presented at Casa das Rosas a solo exhibition of paintings made for the book of poems Epidermias, in partnership with Ângela Castelo Branco. In 2010 presents solo exhibition We live on a mountain in Gallery Virgilio. He has exhibited in several group exhibitions, among which stand out: Além da Forma, curated by Cauê Alves at the Figueiredo Ferraz Institute; The First ten years, at the Tomie Ohtake Institute in 2012, with approximately 50 contemporary artists; Paisagens à margem, at the Paço das Artes Exhibition Program in 2011, with Lucas Arruda, Mariana Galender and Mariana Tassinari; Radio visual project of the 7th Mercosul Biennial' with the work Aperte o botão ou apresente o seu cartão, held in partnership with Lucas Arruda; Incompletudes exhibition at Galeria Virgílio in 2010 curated by Mario Gioia; exhibition between 5 walls in 2008 with Ana Prata; Bruno Dunley and Lucas Arruda; 11th Santos Biennial; Exhibition Program of Ribeirão Preto; 13th Newcomers Hall of Joinville; 37th Annual of Arts of FAAP, in which he received award for the work Domingo, 2005, (video, 13'31''). From August 2000 to July 2001 he studied the 3rd year of High School with qualification in Plastic Arts at De Wijnpers School, in Leuven, Belgium.
