MAMUTE GALLERY OPENS
NEW HEADQUARTERS IN FLORIANÓPOLIS
Mamute Art Gallery opens its new headquarters in Florianópolis. In addition to the unit in Porto Alegre, the gallery expands its operations and settles in a prominent space on the island: Armazém Rita Maria, a fully restored historical-architectural complex, in close relationship with the city's present and past. Curated by Henrique Menezes, the opening exhibition is entitled: "By the sea that takes us further. By the air that takes us further away" and will be presented in two moments, January and March.
The show brings together represented artists and guests with remarkable works of their production: Alexandre Freire, Andressa Cantergiani, Anna Moraes, Antônio Augusto Bueno, Bruno Borne, Camila Elis, Camila Saavedra, Claudia Hamerski, Clóvis Martins Costa, David Magila, Dione Veiga Vieira, Edson Macalini, Emanuel Monteiro, Fernanda Valadares, Ío, Karen Axelrud, Letícia Lampert, Luanda, Luciana Petrelli, Pablo Ferretti, Rafael Bornhausen, Sandra Rey and Wagner Costa.
By the sea that takes us further away | By the air that takes us further away
The idea of TIMELINE carries within it the sensation that events take the form of a plain, equivalent in their potency and uniform in their intensity. In the year that completes a decade of activities, Galeria Mamute shows us that there are high points in the relief of history: by inaugurating a new headquarters in Florianópolis, it reaffirms its project of acting, taking Brazilian contemporary art beyond borders.
In its trajectory, Mamute has led more than fifty exhibitions in its exhibition space - an imposing building in Porto Alegre's Historic Center - besides promoting the visibility of the represented artists approaching them to multiple publics: it has organized and supported shows in Brazil and abroad, participating in fairs and exhibitions that contributed to the legitimization of the production disseminated by the gallery. In these (first) ten years, Mamute has believed in the dialogue between generations, recognizing consolidated names and also revealing young artists with careers in ascension: it is the coexistence of the consecrated with the new that keeps art pulsating, open to emerging languages. The artists who make up the gallery's roster are part of important public and private collections: MAC USP, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, MACRS, MARGS, Fundação Vera Chaves Barcellos, MASC, among others - as well as being part of renowned events such as the Venice, São Paulo, and Mercosul Biennials.
Moving forward will never be a passive attitude: overcoming limits and going beyond requires action, energy, impulse. To mark its arrival in Santa Catarina, Mamute presents two exhibitions - Pelo mar que nos leva mais longe occupies the gallery from January and For the air that takes us further will open at the end of March, combining a selection of represented artists and local guests. In a poetic abstraction, what separates the sea and the air is the horizon - fertile image to illustrate the movement that the gallery undertakes in 2022: looking far away and moving forward, open to the flows and aware of the north it wishes to reach.
