Aura Gallery presents Toca Obra, an individual exhibition by Luiza Gottschalk with curatorial text by Denise Mattar.

Hosted in Toca, a house under construction in Vila Madalena with a project by Tito Ficarelli, the exhibition invites to a proposal of interaction between art and architecture, in which the meanings of the work are mixed.

After the exhibition Clareira, which the artist held in early 2022 at the Museu Nacional da República, in Brasília, in the Federal District, when she also worked alongside Denise Mattar, Luiza brought a new look to the interaction between her works and space, and this look returns in Toca Obra.

Toca was designed from the idea of organic, natural dwellings that exist as a response to a lifestyle and converse with the creatures they inhabit, eschewing the industrialised conventions established by 20th century modernist architecture. From the beginning, Tito and Luiza understood as a necessity of Toca "to have art in the flesh, in the structural body of the house" and set out to build it with their own hands.

From this idea of having art present in the bowels of the house, came Pintura Entre Limites, the central work of the show, composed of a wall built of pigmented layers of reinforced concrete. In it, Luiza imitates the process of sedimentation of natural geography to produce a painting which is not superficial like a fresco or a mural, but which is the whole body of the structure.

Pintura Entre Limites has two sides, one inside and one outside. The external face has a board on which it rests until the material dries completely, and will be revealed in an event on June 25, in which the public and also the artist will see this side of the work for the first time. The reception for the happening will take place from 4pm.

Gottschalk describes the work as "[...] that it was skin and body, all at the same time. Painting, installation, architecture. The thing itself. The wall, made of concrete, matter proper of Tito's world, received my pigments, my drawings and my gestures". A description that is valid for the entire Toca Obra, as this creative process reappears in other constructions of the building, such as the floor of Toca.

Short-lived, Toca Obra ends on July 2, when a closing event also takes place from 4pm to 8pm. Toca, however, continues.
