Equivalentes, Valeska Soares' solo exhibition at Galpão, in São Paulo, opens on Saturday, June 25. During the process of this unprecedented body of work, the artist bought more than a hundred anonymous still-life paintings from around the world, appropriating them and proposing a new meaning by erasing the images of fruit with white paint, leaving apparent only their respective silhouettes. The works, painted in oil on different surfaces (canvas, wood, paper), have different sizes and compose a "salon-style" installation on a pink background. The work evokes themes of desire and memory, as well as unfolds the artist's research on genres from the canon of Art History. An essay by the curator Marília Loureiro develops critical thinking about the show.
