Joao Castilho

João Castilho (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 1978) is a visual artist and works with photography, video, sculpture and installation. His production is inspired by cinema, literature, popular culture, landscapes of the Brazilian cerrado, the relationship with nature, everyday scenes and current affairs.


João Castilho's work is present in institutional collections such as Musée du Quai Branly, Paris; Pinacoteca do Estado, in São Paulo; Coleção Pirelli/MASP de Fotografia, São Paulo; and Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro. He won awards from the Conrado Wessel Art Foundation, in 2014; and the Photography Grant, from the Moreira Salles Institute, in 2013. He was one of the artists selected for the 19th Sesc_Videobrasil Contemporary Art Festival and the Mercosulo Biennial in 2015.
