PENSANT WALLS exhibition

The Poente Gallery invites interested people to visit the exhibition of prints PAREDES PENSANTES.

In this show we will present a solo show by artist George Rembrandt Gutlich on the second floor of the gallery. On the second floor we will have a group show of 15 artists from UFMG's printmaking studio, invited by Gutlich.

The exhibition proposes a dialogue between two possibilities of presentation, given by the confrontation between finished works and works in process; by the final solution opposed to the erratic forms. Through this dynamic, we sought to illuminate, above all, the question of the genesis of printed images.

To realize this intention, two series by the artist George Rembrandt Gütlich stand out, entitled Basilica e Theater of the memory of the city of São Pauloboth of which fall into the first category, completed works. To broaden the spectrum, Gutlich invited artists from the engraving atelier of the Fine Arts School of UFMG, who selected an exquisite collection of prints, drawings and matrices, as well as other artifacts related to graphic making.

The Series Basilicacelebrates the construction stages of the temple dedicated to Our Lady of Aparecida, where elements of the work, such as scaffolding, props and molds, find equivalents in the metal engraving. On the other hand, the Theater of the Memory of the City of São Paulo was conceived as a speculation on the symbolic essence of buildings, on what would remain as testimony after the ruin.

The works that stand against this set bear witness to unusual work done in the printmaking studio where Gutlich is a professor. Through a tangle of possibilities, he presents here the work of his[PH1] colleague, the teacher Eliana Ambrosio, that of students well acquainted with the craft, and that of newly in love with this art, all of them possessing the fire that animates the love for the craft. In this environment, where practice is mixed with thinking, the dynamics of formation is guided by the simultaneous immersion in processes and poetics.

By a recurrent habit of this art, that of fixing on walls drawings and state proofs, of noting desires and technical possibilities on the images, a certain vital palpitation is given to the inert background, as if supporting more than papers, but the course of ideas... and the immeasurable field of non-linear thought.

BIO BY GEORGE REMBRANDT GUTLICH

He is a Printmaker Artist. Adjunct Professor of Printmaking at the Department of Fine Arts, School of Fine Arts, UFMG-Belo Horizonte. Post-Doctorate in Architecture from the School of Architecture, University of Lisbon. Doctor in Arts by UNICAMP. Specialist in Museology by the Museology Institute of São Paulo. Bachelor in Painting by the Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paulo.
