Marianita Linck
Marianita Linck or Marianita, as she signs her pieces, is one of the most representative ceramists of Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil. After her graduation in 1945, she perfected her technique in Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Indiana (United States) and Japan. Her exhibitions are always considered important as she is very parsimonious in offering her work publicly. Her work always presents extreme technical rigour and each piece is based on a specific thematic idea. Her pieces propose the theme metaphorically, thus avoiding the obvious and the simple allusion. However, the female body is her main inspiration. But this inspiration that can interfere in the final result of his work, actually connects them very closely to the four vital elements: earth, water, air and fire. On the whole, what is exposed to our eyes is not a detail, but a delicate sense of volume. What she deliberates is that her pots (as she calls her pieces) are descendants of those first ceramic objects that humanity produced as utensils. Her ceramic pieces are not only a delight for the eyes, but stimulate synesthesia, because the observer admires them with all his senses. Marianita is still active, working and showing her pieces in Porto Alegre. At the Tina Zappoli Gallery, she has had several solo exhibitions and has participated in all the important group shows since 1992.
