Pedro Varela

Pedro Varela (Niterói, Brazil, 1981) lives and works in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro. The artist mixes literary and baroque period references in paintings that refer to an imaginary tropical world. With a strong character of visual narratives, his works explore the idea of the exotic often associated with the tropics. In more recent series, Varela has been alternating paintings in vibrant tones and psychedelic forms and others in reduced colour palettes, such as monochromatics in black, white and blue.

He has works in the following collections: SESC Collection (São Paulo-SP); Gilberto Chateaubriand/Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (MAM-RJ); Montblanc Mexico (Mexico City); Sprint Nextel Art Collection, Overland Park; Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro (MAR-RJ).

His main exhibitions include: "Pedro Varela", Zipper Gallery, São Paulo, 2016; "The great tuft of herbs (With Mauro Piva)", Galeria do Lago - Museu da república, Rio de Janeiro, 2015; "Tropical chronicles", MDM Gallery, Paris, 2015; "Tropical", Galeria Enrique Guerrero, Mexico DF, 2014; "Dusk to dawn...
