Fernando Velazquez

Fernando Velázquez (Montevideo, Uruguay, 1970) is a multimedia artist. His works include videos, installations and interactive objects, audiovisual performances and images generated with algorithmic resources. He explores the relationship between nature and culture, bringing two main topics into dialogue: the perceptive capacities of the human body and the mediation of reality by technical devices. He is interested in the intersection of art with other areas of knowledge such as science, philosophy and visual anthropology.

Master in Fashion, Art and Culture by Senac-SP, post graduate in Video and Technologies On and Off-line by Mecad of Barcelona, participates in exhibitions in Brazil and abroad with emphasis on the Emoção Art.ficial Biennal of Art and Technology (Brazil, 2012), Bienal do Mercosul (Brazil, 2009), Mapping Festival (Switzerland, 2011), WRO Biennale (Poland 2011) and the Pocket Film Festival at the Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2007).

He received, among others, the Sergio Motta Art and Technology Award (Brazil, 2009), Arte.Mov Local Media (Brazil, 2008) and Vida Artificial (Spain, 2008). He was a guest lecturer at PUC-SP, FAAP-SP and Senac-SP and gives lectures and workshops in public, private and third sector institutions such as Stoony Brook University (New York), Cyberfest (Saint Petersburg, Russia), Naustruch (Sabadell, Spain), Visiones Sonoras (Morelia, Mexico). He has organized projects and exhibitions such as Motomix 2007, Papermind Brasil and Projeto !wr? and since 2015 he is the curator and artistic director of Red Bull Station in São Paulo.
